Cleanouts
Planning a Property or Estate Cleanout Without the Stress

A full cleanout is as much a sorting project as a hauling project. Deciding what happens to each category of item before the work starts is what keeps the day calm and the cost predictable.
Sort into four piles, not two
Keep, give away, sell, and discard. Trying to decide item by item without categories is what stalls a cleanout, especially in a family home where nearly everything carries some history.
Set the keep pile aside in one room so it is physically impossible to load it by mistake.
Work room by room, top to bottom
Finish one room completely before starting the next so you can see progress. Attics, basements, and garages take the longest, so start there while energy is high.
Look inside furniture before anything leaves. Documents, photos, and small valuables turn up in drawers and boxes all the time.

Handle the paperwork carefully
Financial records, medical files, and anything with account numbers should be set aside for shredding rather than tossed loose into a container.
If a property is part of an estate, confirm with the executor or family before disposing of anything that could matter later.
Get the container on site before you start
Sorting into a container beats sorting into a pile and moving it twice. If the volume is large, a swap partway through keeps the driveway clear and the work moving.
For occupied or tight properties, we can time delivery and pickup around a closing date or a moving day.
